Thanks for your report. However, I am not able to reproduce the hang. This seems to solve the problem. Since my old computer died I'll have to set up the environment for compiling Emacs again. Perhaps compiling a version in such a new environment will solve the problem. But it is not clear yet if we continue providing the Emacs/AUCTeX bundle.
