Has the MiKTeX output always used backslashes and quotation marks for
file names?  Because as far as I can see the regexp in `TeX-parse-error'
caters for neither of them.

Does it help in your case if you activate file:line:error messages
(either via a command line option for latex or a setting in the TeX
system)?
