I had to type C-c C-c Rubber though -- I couldn't get it to work by default. Then I found this: http://www.emacswiki.org/emacs/LaTeX And I followed the instructions at the end by Tiago Camargo, and they worked. I am a little concerned however with the lack of error messages, but I suppose I can always check them with C-c C-c latex and then C-c ` as I usually do.
