It's David Kastrup (dak at gnu org), and frequently he jumps in when
there are preview issues.

Since the information in this thread is distributed over several
messages and several parts are only in my private mailbox, I suggest
that you file a new bug report

  1. using M-x TeX-submit-bug-report RET from the problematic document
  2. containing the sample file
  3. containing the error messages / log output
  4. containing the generated preview.gs which causes the gs error

Especially using `TeX-submit-bug-report' ensures that your
configurations which may or may not have an effect are included in the
report.
