[How to reproduce] 1. Start a new emacs session. 2. M-x unload-feature RET tex-site RET 3. C-x C-f /tmp/abc.tex RET 4. I expect abc.tex is opened with the original, emacs built-in tex-mode. However, emacs reports that "File mode specification error: (void-function TeX-tex-mode)" Even if I replace ~/.emacs/init.el with a file of only a line (load "auctex.el" nil t t) , nothing changes. If I set `debug-on-error' to t before the item 3 of the above list, the following backtrace is displayed.
