Several years out of date. Cygwin is currently at 1.5.25, with 1.7.1 due out within the next month. It may easily have been a cygwin-specific bug, and possibly even repaired in the meantime. > % m4 --version > GNU m4 1.4 Riddled with security holes, and with known bugs that make autoconf misbehave. This is my guess as to your problem, as we have documented that you need m4 1.4.5 or newer for autoconf 2.63 to work properly. By the way, if you upgrade to newer cygwin, you will find that autoconf, m4, and git are all pre-built and relatively modern versions (and I have built all three of those packages on cygwin without any difficulty). In short, I'm not going to spend any time trying to debug an out-of-date system. But as Ralf said, if you can find a trivial patch, and it is not too much of a maintenance burden, we can consider that. - -- Don't work too hard, make some time for fun as well!
