Follow-up Comment #2, sr #110318 (project autoconf):
I can tell you that MacPorts installs GNU libtool configured with
--program-prefix=g, because part of Apple's toolchain is a program also called
libtool that is unrelated except for being a tool that deals with libraries.
(I believe this dates back to the days of NeXT.)
