The manual of Autoconf 2.72 has:
,----
| ‘egrep’
| Although Posix stopped requiring ‘egrep’ in 2001, a few traditional
| hosts (notably Solaris 10) do not support the Posix replacement
| ‘grep -E’.
`----
That makes it somewhat sound as if Solaris 11 finally had adopted `grep -E'.
Well, it has not:
,----
| [host01:~]$ uname -a
| SunOS host01 5.11 11.4.55.138.3 i86pc i386 i86pc non-global-zone
| [host01:~]$ echo foo | grep -E .
| grep: illegal option -- E
| Usage: grep [-c|-l|-q] -bhinsvw pattern file . . .
`----
Probably above note should talk about "Solaris", without estricting
it to a certain version of it?
