In the automake-1.10 manual, VPATH builds section, it says:
"For this reason we refer to such setups using the name _VPATH builds_ in the sequel."
I am presuming you mean "we refer below to such setups as _VPATH builds_." rather than what you wrote, exciting as it sounds.
(It would be more poetic if I wrote this while queueing for the last Harry Potter book, but I don't think I can get an internet connection down by the supermarket.)
