I'm of the opinion that the feature in question *is* deprecated and is *not* supported, and could be removed at some future date. It is just that there are no plans to do - at the moment. This is how deprecation works. You take as long as it takes to get people to stop using it (*), and then at some point you pull the trigger. Or, you never do, depending... But I get what you are saying - that it is just frustrating, at some gut level, to know about a feature and not be able to read about it in the documentation. But I think we have no choice but to live with that frustration. By the way - and completely changing the subject - but why do we have both $[] and $(())? They seem to be exactly the same.
