You're confused about the purpose of the SHELL variable. It does not tell you what shell you're currently in. It tells programs like vi(1) or xterm(1) which shell to execute, when they need to execute an interactive shell. > also variable has been unset in the Parent shell. > This leads to unpredictable bahaviour of the current bash shell.
