This recent gnulib commit seems relevant: http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/gnulib.git/commit/?id=da8054d48dc22e1c051db54049e005d51a006e69 Look for mbstate_t. Could be that we need another symbol defined for BSD/OS 4.3.1. BSD/OS support was terminated in 2004, so we're verging on a museum piece here and will need help from the original reporter to fix this.
