@neil watson: thanks, Neil! anchoring the regex helped (i.e. the example works now) I don't understand why regex "^ntpd" sets the restart_class, and regex "ntpd" does not. "ps auwx" output does not contain ntpd at all, so I don't understand why it would matter if it's ntpd or ^ntpd. Is this a bug in cfengine or am I missing some subtlety? In any case, the example currently in the reference manual does not work, it's missing the leading carat. cc'ing the bugs list to fix either cfengine or the reference manual, please.
