I'm running sort 

$ sort --version
sort (coreutils) 4.5.3
Written by Mike Haertel and Paul Eggert.

both on Linux 2.4.20 and Windows cygwin

on the attached file 

with 

$ sort -n -u data.txt 

and

$ sort -u data.txt 


The first invocation (with -n) looses one line of the input, 
namely the line with "0" (zero)
