That would lead me to believe a uname call is in the template /etc/skel/.bash_profile. But I looked and could not find it on my systems. I can't reproduce that behavior. I realize this is getting off topic for coreutils but can you track this down and say where the uname call actually is located? And what version of the package which contains it that you have installed?
