On my system there are two banner programs available. One is the SysV banner and the other is the BSD banner. The SysV prints large font text horizontally as for marking a screen or a printout. The BSD banner prints out large font text vertically for printing on a continuous paper feed printer. That type of paper printer is not found very often these days. Even when that type of printer was common I didn't find the BSD banner very useful. But I often use the SysV banner for various purposes. It is quite convenient for visual marking of screen information and printouts. I use it often. I am not familiar with the Cygwin banner program. Is it like one of the two BSD or SysV banner programs in behavior? Could you say a few words about why this program benefit from being included in coreutils?
