As a first cut at the answer, try this instead: find . -name '*.xml' | xargs ls (Of course, due to potential filename spacing issues, it is safer to use the GNU version of findutils, in which case you can do something like: find -name '*.xml' -print0 | xargs --null ls ) - -- Life is short - so eat dessert first!
