Version is GNU sh-utils 2.0.11 from 2001. Then I believe that on your machine you have a local version of su installed that is not stock. This is probably installed in the /usr/local directory tree. These commands may help you to find this and determine this. type su locate su.1 find /usr/local -name su -print find /usr/local -name su.1 -print I believe that you installed the GNU sh-utils package way long ago and probably have forgotten about it. This is why you are getting an old man page and also the behavior that you are seeing now. This would have nothing to do with Debian in that case. The latest release of that set of programs is now called GNU coretils. Here are the sources. ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/coreutils/coreutils-6.1.tar.gz (8.0MB) ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/coreutils/coreutils-6.1.tar.bz2 (5.1MB) Here is the announcement: http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-coreutils/2006-08/msg00163.html You can subscribe to announcements of new releases for coreutils at this url below. This is a very low volume list containing only critical information about coreutils. http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/coreutils-announce Bob _______________________________________________ Bug-coreutils mailing list [email protected] http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/bug-coreutils
