That's obviously not true. There have been six stable 5.9x releases (5.92 - 5.97), the first of which was nearly 14 months ago. [ I suppose you looked at the NEWS file from the trunk. It doesn't list 5.9x release dates from after the branch point. I maintain the position that no distributor should still be packaging coreutils-5.2.1 without a _lot_ of patches.
