Hi.

du seems to miss files/directorys on vfat filesystems. Only a certain amount of
the filesystem (which seem to correspond to almost exactly 100000 files) will
be processed, for the rest of the filesystem the following error is printed,
for each remaining directory:
du: `foobar': No such file or directory

Probably related: I had a similar problem in an older version of
slocate/updatedb (Ubuntu 6.10), where whole subtrees of that disk would be
missing in the database, but haven't had this problem with current versions.
Also, "find" will always find all files.

version info:
standard Ubuntu 7.10
coreutils 5.97-5.3ubuntu3
du (GNU coreutils) 5.97
Linux hobbes 2.6.22-14-386 #1 Sun Oct 14 22:36:54 GMT 2007 i686 GNU/Linux

disk data:
/dev/hdb5 on /mnt/hdf5 type vfat (rw,utf8,umask=007,gid=46)
/dev/hdb5 132969600 110368960 22600640 84% /mnt/hdf5

Thanks,
Cheers,
Wolfram

Number One: ...meaning what?
Geordi: We will disintegrate in 19.5 seconds.
Picard: Well, just piggy-back the primary hyperlinear absorption beacon to
the bipolar dynamic ODN compensator using an ionized plasmonic duranium
detector.
Number One: Captain?
Picard: ...uh, what did I just say?
