Thanks for the report. I can't reproduce it, but I might have an idea; did you type this in, or copy and paste from somewhere else? There was a recent report of someone doing a copy-and-paste, where the OP ended up pasting a UTF character that has the same glyph but different bytes than '-', and where he discovered this dilemma by repeating the copy-and-paste action as input to od. http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-coreutils/2008-12/msg00063.html - -- Don't work too hard, make some time for fun as well!
