Thanks for the contribution.  However, to be accepted, you will need to
do a couple of things.

First, rebase your patch against the latest git sources (RHEL 5 uses
_old_ versions - although that's intentional, because it's stable);
coreutils 8.4 has a drastic number of code changes since 5.97.

Second, you will need to assign copyright to FSF.  If you are interested
in pursuing this further, I can give you more details off-list to start
that process.
