Yes, this is similar (or almost identical) to the patch that I sent in
earlier.  Since this is someting lots of people find useful, I do
think it would be convenient to have it in the canonical version of
cvs.

I was looking for feedback.  The patch is rather trivial but there has
been strong opinions for not including it previously and that's why I
wanted to ask.
