Dear list,

First of all, thanks a lot for your work, which saved already 10 % of
the data of a friend of mine.

Now ddrescue goes through an error-rich zone and progresses very slowly.
I wanted to stop it to try to bypass the zone, as suggested in an
italian newsgroup:

http://groups.google.it/group/lugge/browse_thread/thread/39fb350d66abed56/38530b4d8a245c05

However, Crtl-C, or even sudo killall -9 ddrescue do not manage to stop
ddrescue when it faces errors such as:

sd 4:0:0:0: SCSI error: return code = 0x8000002
sdb: Current: sense key: Medium Error
    Additional sense: Unrecovered read error
Info fld=0x0
end_request: I/O error, dev sdb, sector 3655885
Buffer I/O error on device sdb, logical block 3655885
sd 4:0:0:0: SCSI error: return code = 0x8000002
sdb: Current: sense key: Medium Error
    Additional sense: Unrecovered read error
Info fld=0x0
end_request: I/O error, dev sdb, sector 3655886
Buffer I/O error on device sdb, logical block 3655886

Is it a bug or is it unavoidable? I do not feel like going for a
trial-and-error approach if I have to reboot the computer at each
attempt :(

Anyway, thanks again for the 10 % already rescued, it is much better
than the "it is impossible" statement from the vendor.

PS : will it finish to kill the drive if I let the process runing a
whole day?

Have a nice day,
