Hello,

I was wondering, has anyone attempted to patch ddrescue to take
advantage of multi-threading? I found a couple of threads in the
mailing list that suggest something like this.

Dave Yost suggests using multiple threads to read the data concurrently:

http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-ddrescue/2005-09/msg00001.html
http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-ddrescue/2005-09/msg00002.html

Antonio Diaz suggests that a separate thread to update the command
line indicator would make it appear more responsive:

http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-ddrescue/2007-11/msg00010.html

But I couldn't find any further work done in this direction, so I
thought I'd take this up as a little experimental project.

Are there potential roadblocks? How exactly would multi-threading harm
"portability"?
