I've got four recovery options here that I use, eSATA, powered
eSATA card, USB3 dock, and of course if all else fails, a spare
machine to plug a drive in.
I only mentioned the USB bridge behaviour as a "pitfall" I
encountered in the past when testing the --direct facility.
I'm sure I double checked my setup before when I mentioned the
slowdowns in the past, and using the --direct option, but I'll
go double check everything again.
