What it does when turned on (Antonio, correct me if I am wrong):
When ddrescue encounters a read error, it will tell the operating system to close and re-open the drive (kind of like closing and re-opening a file).

The purpose of this is to help maintain read speed, as in some cases the overall read speed seems to drop by at least half (or more) after an error is encountered.

Hello.

Where can I find any information about "--reopen-on-error" parameter? What does it do?

Thank you.

GNU ddrescue is a data recovery tool. It copies data from one file or
block device (hard disc, cdrom, etc) to another, trying hard to rescue
data in case of read errors.

GNU Ddrescuelog is a tool that manipulates ddrescue logfiles, shows
logfile contents, converts logfiles to/from other formats, compares
logfiles, tests rescue status, and can delete a logfile if the rescue is
done.

The homepage is at http://www.gnu.org/software/ddrescue/ddrescue.html

Changes in this version:

    * The new option "-O, --reopen-on-error" has been added.

Regards,
Antonio Diaz, GNU ddrescue author and maintainer.
