In the first column of ls -l output there is a code for
special files, 

        b for block devices
        c for character devices
        d for dirfiles
        l for symlinks

        p for named pipes?
        s for ... what?


I hope to be able to find information for the 
interesting filetypes via chmod and dircolors.

It would be nice to have fully documented output
in the man page for this,
   the most important file-utility.

I remember CP/M having only filename and size,
no date; you had to use STAT to get other information.
On the positive side: nothing to confuse you!
