I'll add it to the list of things to do, but it'll have to wait until after tar 1.14 is out since there's currently a feature freeze. grep, du, and probably some other programs could use the same switch. It'd be helpful if it had a consistent name. Perhaps we could call it --sort-directory-entries? I'll cc: this reply to the grep list (though grep is also feature-frozen right now) and the fileutils list.
