mv argument error

Hello! 
I tried to mv about 5000 files with mv, but it said 
bash: /bin/mv: Argument list too long

Don'T know whether it is the fault of bash or mv,
but just wanted to tell you. I solved this problem
with a for loop, but I think mv should be able to mv
so many files.

Please tell me, if I am totaly wrong.
