hi there, i noticed when i switched my GNU/Linux machine to the devfs that 'df' doesnt give very pretty output when called, as the new device names under devfs are quite long... eg
Filesystem 1k-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on /dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part7 3028080 1539484 1488596 51% / /dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part8 62230468 12263512 49966956 20% /home /dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part6 1035660 32820 897620 4% /tmp /dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part3 3842408 767596 2879624 22% /mnt/lfs-tim /dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part4 1130568 32 1073104 1% /mnt/ext2 tmpfs 128660 0 128660 0% /dev/shm the -P option is better... but obviously lacking the visual alignment Filesystem 1024-blocks Used Available Capacity Mounted on /dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part7 3028080 1539488 1488592 51% / /dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part8 62230468 12263516 49966952 20% /home /dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part6 1035660 32820 897620 4% /tmp /dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part3 3842408 788360 2858860 22% /mnt/lfs-tim /dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part4 1130568 32 1073104 1% /mnt/ext2 tmpfs 128660 0 128660 0% /dev/shm i personally think devfs is a brilliant idea, but the names!! agghh the names!! i usually work with a 142 character-wide terminal, would it maybe be possible to allow 'df' to detect this and expand the view accordingly? (short of renaming the devices, i suppose this is all that can be done) i see fileutils is renamed to 'coreutils' for the next release, has this 'prettification' been considered in the upgrade? thanks in advance!
