   I have a problem using watchpoints with gdb, 
   probably a problem with internal blocks (sorry for the guess :-)

The current release is GDB 4.18, and a new 5.0 release will be made in
the not too distant future.  May I suggest that you try a newer
version and report the bug again if it's still there?  Take a look at
http://sourceware.cygnus.com/gdb for more info.
