I have seen similar thing happening in gcc development. For example, gcc 2.95.3
does not 'support' Tru64 5.1, but the latest snapshot 'should' (v3.0 branch).
And when you try to bootstrap the latest snapshot, you find out that it does
not compile. Obviously this is because the snapshot is not 'patched'.
To build either gdb 5.0 and/or gcc 2.95.3 in Tru64 5.1 environment, you need
to apply several _unofficial_ patches.
Check message:
http://sources.redhat.com/ml/gdb-patches/2001-05/msg00119.html
Or if you are lazy send me mail and I'll let you download patched gdb 5.0 from
our ftp server.
Note that you also need to invoke 'as' with '-oldas' switch because the
new assembler does not 'support' stabs by default.
Cheers, Timo
