Job Description The NSSTG - Software Tools and Engineering Productivity Team (NSSTG/ STEP) at Cisco Systems, Inc. seeks a GDB development engineer with a strong academic background in computer science and at least four years of relevant experience. This is an opportunity to gain expertise and hands on experience with cutting edge operating system, debugger and compiler technologies at Cisco, contribute to shaping the company's next generation software platform, as well as to become involved with the Open Source community. We are looking for talented software engineers interested in hardware, operating system, and compiler and debugger technologies, with a keen eye for detail and a passion for quality and a drive to improve Cisco C/C++ software development tools and processes. The selected candidate will be involved in cross-functional projects ranging from implementing new debugger features including support for debugging multiple threads and processes, tracepoints, operating system features and enhancements, and evangelizing best software development and secure coding practices within the organization. Qualifications • BS or MS in Computer Science with significant coursework and/or thesis/projects related to OS or compiler development. • Solid understanding of modern processor architectures and ABIs, ideally MIPS, PowerPC, and x86/x64. • Solid understanding of operating system architecture and design. • Exposure to Open Source development processes and projects, ideally FSF GDB. • In-depth understanding of the C and C++ programming languages and standards, and exceptional coding skills. • Good knowledge of the POSIX/UNIX shell and utilities, along with good scripting skills. • Ability to read the assembly language. • Strong analytical and debugging skills.
