One reason is that a warning message and the "extracting.." message
corresponding to it will be pulled apart in the original form.
It looks unnaturally.


For example

$ gtgas -wv
 ...
 [1] extracting tags of foo.c                         <--,
 [2] extracting tags of bar.h                             \
      ...                                                  |
 [23] extracting tags of zoo.c                            /
Warning: Out of function.    while [+16 ./foo.c]      <--'
 ...
