I like the idea of having just one "open" operation, and instead of stating which format the file is in, working it out from the file contents.
I don't know how easy it is to identify the file format, I think .sgf files will be easy to spot but the text ones might be tricky. And thoughts (on whether this is a good idea) before I take a look at how feasible identifying file foramts is? Jon
