Yes and no. The engine is undoubtedly free, but what about the interface created for it? The source of BG Light is here: http://www.nongnu.org/bglight/ If memory serves, the engine is based on the 0.13 weights.

Probably it is based on the older gtk1 version of GNU backgammon. Formally it is also released under the GNU public license (or it is a infringement on the copyright), and therefore both code and program _must_ be freely available. Christian.
