Yes and no. The engine is undoubtedly free, but what about the
interface created for it? The source of BG Light is here:
http://www.nongnu.org/bglight/
If memory serves, the engine is based on the 0.13 weights.

I had forgotten/didn't know about this version. Probably it is based on
the older gtk1 version of GNU backgammon.

Formally it is also released under the GNU public license (or it is a
infringement on the copyright), and therefore both code and program
_must_ be freely available.
