I'm here!  Just a bit distracted at present.  I should be getting access to a 
64bit vista (8 core!) machine soon, so I'll be able to look at this.
 
As always trying to turn down/off "hardware acceleration" in the display 
properties (no idea if this has changed in Vista), will give an idea if the 
problem is with the graphics driver or the vista opengl driver.

partially solved them (before a code fix) was to use the quick draw function
