Windows Vista introduced UAC - User Account Control.
And Vista protects your programs from being touched: it does not allow
alterations in %programfiles%
Hence the 'Permission denied'.
Furthermore: try to discover a saved match via Explorer... good luck finding it.

There are ways to overcome this behaviour, but it's not possible to do
so just for GNU Backgammon alone.
Thus I recommend to install GNU Backgammon in another folder, not
being %programfiles%\gnubg.

Why not install it in C:\gnubg?
You won't get 'Permission denied', you'll find your saved matches in
notime, ... it's almost as if you have the ease of XP back at your
fingers.

I would uninstall gnubg and reinstall it in C:\gnubg (NOT ...Program files\...)
