I have committed a change to CVS regarding the assert problem. I think I found a few offending files and fixed them. If you get an assert error in the future let me know, and which source file was the problem. Some files were using assert without explicitly including assert.h (Which seem to cause some distributions problems) The make succeeding is a good thing. It is really bad that its crashing. It doesn't crash here so I suspect its an issue with the Ubuntu environment/libraries etc. So now that I know you have a database system compiled in can you do the backtrace again (using GDB) after clicking on the "show records" and send us the result.
