With "Quick drawing" on, the performance improves slightly (3.3 FPS, with "Curve accuracy" set about halfway). But, IIUC "Quick drawing" won't use the card's graphic acceleration. Actually, I suspect that GnuBG never really uses the card's acceleration - even with "Quick drawing" off - since the CPU pegs when it's animating anything.
