I'd like to add that I tried helping Jakub out, and requested further hep from this list. Some things to add. When he launched GNUBG he hears the startup sound but the main window doesn't ever appear, and then it seems to just run in the background. I asked him to tell me what files exist in the .gnubg directory and he says the directory exists but only has a Backup sub folder but no files. This in itself is rather odd. He is using Win7 in a Czech configuration. I had him disable virus checking, and that didn't seem to do it. I did ask Jakub for this information but never got a response. My line of questioning below is to determine if special characters may be responsible for not being able to find the home directory and config files. It would help if Jakub could tell us what the results of these ideas are: #1) Click the windows start icon (Bottom left of windows), click "All Programs", click "GNU Backgammon", right mouse click the program "GNU Backgammon" and select "Run as Administrator". You will probably be asked for your password (which is normal). Does it work? #2) I'd also be curious. Does your user account name have any special characters in it? Accented (non english characters). To know what your account name is you can click the windows start menu, and in the "search program and files" box at the bottom enter this: cmd (and hit enter). This will load a windows command prompt. In that box enter this command: echo %USERNAME% I'd be curious to know EXACTLY what that returns. I'd also like to know EXACTLY what this command returns as well: echo %USERPROFILE% -- Michael Petch CApp::Sysware Consulting Ltd.
