This is a known issue that appears to be due to the scrollbar handling in
recent Ubuntu. There is some discussion at:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnubg/+bug/1002063
The best solution is to rebuild with a compile-time option that disables
overlay scrollbars entirely, but you should be able to get it to work by
setting an environment variable.
