Howdy, There are a few things that are likely going on. There is the level the bot actually plays at as your opponent. When you start a match you can change the skill level it uses by clicking the "Modify Player Settings..." button and specify the play level for the bot. On the modify settings page set the bot (GNU Backgammon) as Player 0 (0 is on top). Under the bot you should be able to select the level it plays at. You can set it higher than world class. There is the match/game/move analysis level that is available though the "Analyze" menu. The level used for thosw is controlled by the settings under Settings menu/Analysis... . You will notice that there is an "Analysis Level" with a pull down box which you can change the level the bot plays at. On that same screen to the right of "Analysis Level" you should see "Eval Hint / Tutor Level" If you want the analysis options and hint (or tutor) to be different just uncheck the box "same as analysis" and then set the actualy level you wish to use for hints. Tutor mode can be turned on while playing (It is an option of the New Match window when you start a match). Tutor mode will tell you as you are playing what mistakes you may be making, and give the option to correct them if you so choose. The Tutor and Hint will use the setting mentioned in the last paragraph. -- Michael Petch GNU Backgammon Maintainer / Developer OpenPGP FingerPrint=D81C 6A0D 987E 7DA5 3219 6715 466A 2ACE 5CAE 3304 _______________________________________________ Bug-gnubg mailing list [email protected] https://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/bug-gnubg
