Do you know a font that could be used for Japanese ?
The fonts-vlgothic (share/fonts/truetype/vlgothic/VL-Gothic-Regular.ttf) rendered "合計Σύνολα" (Kanji + greek) well in my Debian environment. Debian gnubg package /usr/share/gnubg/fonts/Vera.ttf symlink to DejaVuSans.ttf. ---------------------------------------------------------------- % ls -l /usr/share/gnubg/fonts/Vera.ttf lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 42 Nov 21 2022 /usr/share/gnubg/fonts/Vera.ttf -> ../../fonts/truetype/dejavu/DejaVuSans.ttf ---------------------------------------------------------------- DejaVuSans.ttf still "Failed to create font from (...)" error, when "Totals" translate to "合計" (Kanji msgstr). > Russ Allbery patched his Debian builds long ago to use the system dejavu > fonts instead of shipping one with gnubg. Because, almost of Japanese backgammon players can correctly interpret "Total" (or "Totals"). BTW, `Plot history' rendered "5□□□□□" (msgstr "5マッチ平均") at Windows build in Japanese environment. `Plot history' at my Debian GNU/Linux environment works well. (Rendered "5マッチ平均") To me this looks like another font related problem, but I don't know how to fix the Windows build. -- TAKAHASHI Kaoru
