Copying here something I posted to bgonline.org:
My article about stylized BG AI's either didn't attract interest because its implications weren't
understood well or you guys are intimitated, even scared shitless to converse with me. But you don't
need to be because I can be nice and help you break out of your self-confining cocoon of faith if
only you wouldn't religiously patronize me. So, let me try to approach this subject again from a
different angle.
If gamblegammon was christianity, XG would be god and mochi would be jesus.
God is cheap, $50, even with free trial for everyone to play against. But to play against jesus, you
need to be an apostle or a pope or at least a cardinal or something.
Imagine that Frank combs the transcripts of mochi's plays for all his moves deviating from XG,
(*especially for "PR sacrificing" moves*), and creates a "mochi AI" (with the same low PR that mochi
has) as one of the many AI's that he says he will be making available for you to play against using
his BgBzzzt bot...
Wouldn't that be swell? What wouldn't I give to be able to play against jesus and to show that I can
beat him just as well as I can beat his father? But I can never dream about it unless perhaps I
offer to gamble a worthwhile amount of money against jesus or unless BgBzzzt or some other BG bots
implements a "mochi AI"...
Maybe now you understand what my idea of "stylized AI's" can mean for the future of gamblegammon
(and for backgammon to a lesser extent)? Maybe now you will dare to open your minds and mouths to
say something about it?
If Frank decides to add a "mochi AI" to his BgBzzzt bot, I would be willing to contribute whatever
time and effort I can to help him with it. Of course, the same offer goes to GnuBG and other bot
developers also.
