Author list in `version-etc'

Hi,

Currently, `version_etc_va ()' disallows empty author lists.  The GCS do
not mandate it and it can be arguably useful to not list any authors
(e.g., in projects with large `THANKS').

Can the `abort ()' and extraneous newlines be removed?
