You can grep for `configure.ac:[0-9]*:` to find all error messages or use compilation-mode in emacs or some similar editor. See `(standards) Errors' for further variants of error messages. Where do you get this error from? I cannot find it in gnulib, sharutils or autoconf. I suspect that the check is actually wrong, and not your version number even though one tends to use a three group for alpha/beta releases, and two groups for real releases.
