sha256sum comes to mind. :-) It's not a big deal; it's just that this feature of timestamp or checksum text in source files is more trouble than it's really worth. In practice, if I'm worried that someone has (say) a bad copy of src/sort.c, I can ask them to send me their copy. config.guess could be the same. In the old days it wasn't always practical to ask for copies, but nowadays it is.
