core in #iphone-dev on irc.osx86.hu has successfully ported GNUpod to the iPhone. He's also got ffmpeg and is working on the imagemagick suite (currently "convert" is working.) I've been testing GNUpod's basic adding/deleting songs and podcasts and it works very well, albeit a little slow atm. For some reason (likely core's perl port) GNUpod chokes when a video is present in the iTunes library:

# gnupod_addsong.pl -m /var/root/Media test.mp3
gnupod_addsong.pl Version 0.99.5 (C) Adrian Ulrich

not well-formed (invalid token) at line 1337, column 8, byte 1121620 at /opt/iphone/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/arm-apple-darwin-2level/XML/Parser.pm line 187

If anyone on this list that knows gnupod/perl better might have a look at what we've got to see if something is outstanding that's causing us to choke on videos. You can find core's ports here: http://wickedpsyched.com/iphone/media/

I don't write Obj-C code required to make a native iPhone UI, so I'm in the process of writing a sort of gnupod frontend in pure shell using Erica Sadun's "alert" utility for dialogs and interactivity. It should allow iPhone users to add/change/delete songs and podcasts directly from their iPhone/iPod touch without needing to connected to the computer, sort of a "Mobile iPod Manager" using gnupod as the backend. If anyone has any ideas about this let me know.

Thanks!

Ben
